The Philippine Air Force (PAF) is set to receive advanced S-70i Black Hawk helicopter training systems and support services from US defence contractor Lockheed Martin under a newly signed Direct Commercial Sale contract.
The agreement covers a full-flight simulator featuring a digital-twin training solution designed to replicate the sights, sensations, and operational experience of flying the S-70i Black Hawk. The package also includes a virtual maintenance trainer featuring high-fidelity, interactive 3D models of the helicopter’s individual airframe subsystems.
In addition to the training equipment, Lockheed Martin will provide associated training materials, sustainment services, and spare parts support through 2032 for the PAF’s Black Hawk fleet. The contract represents Lockheed Martin’s first order for S-70i Black Hawk training devices.
While the Philippines establishes its domestic training capabilities, PAF pilots will continue to receive Black Hawk training at the Sikorsky Training Academy in the United States.
Philippine Air Force Expands Its Black Hawk Fleet
The training contract follows the delivery of the final batch of Black Hawk helicopters from the Philippines’ 32-aircraft order placed in 2022, which was received in August 2026. These helicopters join the PAF’s existing fleet of 15 S-70i aircraft, bringing the total number to 47 and making the Philippines the world’s largest S-70i operator, according to the report.
The PAF operates the S-70i Black Hawk across multiple mission profiles, including troop transportation, search and rescue, disaster response, and humanitarian assistance. The addition of advanced simulation and maintenance training systems is expected to strengthen pilot proficiency, technical expertise, and long-term fleet readiness.
