Peru has ordered another C-27J Spartan transport aircraft as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen tactical airlift operations supporting disaster response, medical evacuation, and connectivity to remote regions.
The purchase will expand the Peruvian Air Force’s C-27J fleet to five aircraft, with the latest delivery scheduled for 2027.
According to Leonardo, the aircraft will be the country’s first C-27J in the advanced “Next Generation” standard, incorporating updated avionics systems and aerodynamic refinements intended to enhance efficiency and mission performance.
Since the platform entered Peruvian service in 2015, the Spartan fleet has been heavily utilized for operations across mountainous terrain and isolated regions lacking developed infrastructure.
Leonardo stated that by early 2026, Peru’s C-27J fleet had recorded nearly 16,000 flight hours, including hundreds of aeromedical evacuation missions as well as transport operations involving personnel, cargo, and emergency relief supplies.
The aircraft’s ability to operate from short, unpaved, and minimally supported airstrips has made it a critical component of Peru’s humanitarian assistance, logistics, and disaster-relief operations.
International Expansion of Spartan Fleets
The latest Peruvian order represents the 100th C-27J aircraft procured globally among 21 operators, highlighting continued demand for tactical transport platforms capable of operating in difficult environments.
Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia signed an order for four C-27J Maritime Patrol Aircraft, becoming the first customer for the variant equipped with integrated maritime weapons systems.
In December 2025, Leonardo secured a contract to deliver logistics and simulator support services for the Italian Air Force’s fleet of 12 C-27J Spartans.
Meanwhile, Slovenia received its second C-27J Spartan transport aircraft in December 2024 for use by the 15th Aviation Wing of the Slovenian Armed Forces.
