Bengaluru-based SSS Defence has successfully delivered another batch of its G72 submachine guns to the Punjab Police, reflecting the growing trust placed in India’s indigenous defence manufacturing sector. The latest delivery further demonstrates the shift by Indian law enforcement agencies toward domestically developed small arms designed to meet modern operational requirements while reducing reliance on imported weapons.

The G72 SMG is chambered in the standard 9x19mm NATO round and is optimized for urban warfare and close-quarter battle scenarios. With a cyclic firing rate of nearly 900–950 rounds per minute, the weapon employs a roller-delayed blowback operating system that enhances firing stability, accuracy, and controllability during automatic fire.

The platform has been designed with high modularity, featuring multiple barrel configurations, ambidextrous controls, a side-folding stock, and integrated Picatinny and M-LOK rails for mounting optics, suppressors, lasers, and other tactical equipment. Combining lightweight construction with durability, the G72 is well suited for SWAT teams, counter-terror formations, and special operations units engaged in high-risk missions.

SSS Defence stated that the delivery reflects close collaboration between the company and operational users, ensuring that the weapon system addresses the real-world requirements of Punjab Police personnel rather than being developed through purely theoretical specifications. This user-focused approach has helped refine the platform for demanding law enforcement conditions.

The company has steadily strengthened its position within India’s domestic small-arms market. The G72 recently emerged as the lowest bidder for a major National Security Guard (NSG) requirement involving 500 submachine guns, marking a significant move away from imported systems like the MP5 toward indigenous alternatives.

Apart from Punjab Police, multiple state police organizations, including Uttar Pradesh Police, have inducted G72 variants along with SSS Defence’s M72 assault rifles and G72-P pistols. These developments showcase the company’s end-to-end capabilities in weapon design, engineering, and manufacturing, supporting India’s broader Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative in defence production.

The adoption of the G72 provides law enforcement units with improved close-combat capability, enhanced operational flexibility, and faster response potential. The weapon’s compatibility with standard 9mm ammunition simplifies supply and logistics, while its suppressor-ready design makes it suitable for stealth-oriented missions when required. As security threats continue to evolve, indigenous weapon systems like the G72 offer scalable and cost-effective solutions tailored to Indian operational needs.

SSS Defence is also continuing to expand its broader product ecosystem, which includes assault rifles, sniper rifles, pistols, suppressors, and modernization kits, further contributing to India’s push for self-reliance in advanced small arms technology.
