KNDS has secured an order from Malaysia for 18 CAESAR self-propelled howitzers, making the country the latest and 15th operator of the combat-proven artillery system.

The contract was signed at the Eurosatory 2026 defense show in Paris, with representatives from KNDS and Malaysia’s Advanced Defense System formalizing the agreement. A key element of the program is the local assembly of the systems in Malaysia through a technology-transfer initiative aimed at boosting the nation’s defense industrial base.

The CAESAR system is designed to deliver a combination of mobility and firepower. Installed on a wheeled chassis, it can fire six rounds in less than 60 seconds at ranges reaching 40 kilometers, while its rapid shoot-and-scoot capability enables crews to leave firing positions quickly and reduce the risk of counter-fire.

Malaysia’s purchase forms part of ongoing efforts to modernize its artillery forces while expanding domestic defense production capabilities. KNDS stated that the project supports the objectives of Malaysia’s National Defence Policy, which prioritizes the growth of local defense manufacturing and sustainment expertise.

The deal further strengthens cooperation between KNDS and Malaysia’s defense sector. The two sides previously partnered in 2018 on a program involving the delivery and local assembly of 105LG lightweight towed artillery guns.

Commenting on the agreement, KNDS France CEO Nicolas Groult said the company is honored to provide the Malaysian Army with advanced artillery systems and remains committed to helping the country enhance its defense capabilities through long-term cooperation and industrial localization.

The order reflects a broader regional trend, with several Southeast Asian countries pursuing artillery modernization and precision-fire programs in response to changing security requirements.
