Raytheon has been awarded a contract by Blue Raven for 120 SharpSight surveillance radars, making it the largest order placed for the system so far.
The deal covers radar manufacturing and sustainment services, while Blue Raven — previously operating as Crestwood Technology Group — will handle international resale and distribution responsibilities.
Developed as a software-defined multi-domain radar, SharpSight is designed for integration on both manned and unmanned airborne platforms. The system combines technologies from Raytheon’s HISAR and SeaVue radar product lines to support missions such as maritime domain awareness, border security, anti-surface warfare, search-and-rescue operations, and wide-area surveillance.
Advanced Surveillance Functions
SharpSight uses a modular open-system architecture that enables easier upgrades and compatibility with multiple aircraft types.
Among the platforms integrating the radar is the MQ-9B SeaGuardian built by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems.
The radar is capable of detecting, tracking, and identifying over 1,000 targets simultaneously through the fusion of radar data and automatic identification system information.
Designed for long-range small-target detection, SharpSight enables aircraft and drones to maintain surveillance coverage while operating at higher altitudes and greater stand-off distances.
Its mission profile includes coastal monitoring, littoral surveillance, anti-piracy missions, and economic exclusion zone enforcement. The system can also assist in counter-smuggling and anti-trafficking operations, in addition to land imaging, mapping, and environmental monitoring tasks.
