Textron Aviation Defense has secured a contract exceeding $150 million to deliver program management and sustainment support for the US military’s T-6 Texan II trainer aircraft. The deal builds on a 2021 agreement that includes systems engineering, fleet oversight, maintenance, and upgrades.

The contract covers T-6A, T-6B, and T-6D variants operated by the US Air Force, US Navy, and US Army, increasing the overall program ceiling to $510 million. Work will be executed over five years at Textron’s facility in Wichita, Kansas.

The Texan II is based on the Pilatus PC-9 and was introduced in the early 2000s to modernize pilot training for US joint forces. The aircraft features a two-seat configuration, a length of 33 feet (10 meters), and compatibility with NATO-standard systems and advanced training technologies.

It is powered by a 1,100-horsepower Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop engine and a four-bladed propeller, enabling operations up to 31,000 feet, a range of 900 nautical miles, and speeds of up to 280 knots. Currently, roughly 1,000 Texan II aircraft are in service worldwide across 15 nations, with a cumulative total of over 5 million flight hours.
