ARTEC, the joint venture of KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall, has been awarded a contract for 69 additional Boxer RCT30 infantry fighting vehicles for Germany and the Netherlands. The agreement, concluded through the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation, represents an optional purchase following the countries’ order for 222 Boxer vehicles in 2025.
The German Armed Forces will receive 35 additional Boxer RCT30s, supplementing their earlier procurement of 150 vehicles. The Netherlands will take delivery of 34 vehicles, bringing the Royal Netherlands Army’s total fleet of wheeled infantry fighting vehicles to 106.
Boxer RCT30
The KNDS-developed Boxer RCT30 is expected to form the backbone of Germany’s emerging “Medium Forces,” a highly mobile land-force concept designed to operate between heavily armored formations and light infantry units. It combines the proven Boxer platform, currently in service with seven nations, with a 30 mm turret developed for the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, allowing effective engagement of moving targets while the vehicle is in motion.
Designated “Schakal” by Germany, the platform is additionally equipped for countering drones and aircraft. Its integrated MELLS anti-tank guided missile system provides the capability to defeat heavily armored targets, including main battle tanks. The vehicle can carry six dismounted soldiers and is intended to serve as the principal weapon system for mechanized infantry formations within the Medium Forces.
