US Ambassador Sergio Gor said the agreement highlights a bilateral defence partnership that is becoming “deeper, more capable, and more consequential.”

The number of Javelin anti-tank guided missile systems being acquired by India, as well as the total value of the procurement, has not yet been disclosed.

According to a US statement, the United States welcomed the Indian Army’s signing of a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) for the acquisition of the Javelin anti-tank guided missile system through the US Foreign Military Sales process.

The statement described the development as an important milestone in the long-standing defence relationship between the two countries, adding that the agreement could create opportunities for greater future collaboration between the US and Indian defence industries.
