Ukraine is set to receive 15,000 long-range artillery shells from Denmark, Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has announced. The delivery comes after Ukraine requested that Denmark reallocate planned purchases from short-range ammunition toward extended-range artillery capabilities, with some of the munitions already transferred.
In February, Denmark also pledged an additional $541 million in military support for Ukraine, with part of the funding derived from the sale of F-16 fighter jets. Following the latest allocation, Denmark’s total military assistance to Ukraine in 2026 is projected to approach $1.99 billion.
The increasing reach and effectiveness of unmanned aerial systems have significantly expanded battlefield engagement zones, making long-range artillery a critical capability for Ukrainian forces. Such systems enable strikes against distant targets while reducing the operational risks faced by artillery crews. Fedorov has previously highlighted the requirement for artillery munitions capable of reaching targets at distances exceeding 30 kilometers.
Ukraine is expected to require around 1.2 million long-range 155mm artillery rounds during 2026. According to Rheinmetall, the company could provide approximately 100,000 of those rounds. In a separate development earlier this month, Fedorov stated that Norway had agreed to finance the acquisition of additional long-range artillery ammunition for Ukrainian forces operating on the front line.
