Slovakia has received the last batch of Patria AMV XP ambulance vehicles, completing deliveries under a 2022 defense agreement with Finland. The government-to-government deal includes 10 armored ambulance platforms, alongside 60 infantry fighting vehicles and six command-and-control variants. Worth approximately $447 million, the program features technology transfer provisions intended to enhance Slovakia’s local production capabilities and reinforce national defense-industrial independence. The contract also encompasses ammunition supplies, supporting infrastructure, and military logistics services.
Built on an 8×8 chassis, the Patria AMV XP is 9 meters long, weighs up to 32 tonnes, and can carry payloads of up to 15 tonnes. The vehicle’s modular armored structure provides protection against mines, ballistic projectiles, and IEDs, and can be equipped with a remote weapon station carrying various armaments. A 600-hp diesel engine, complemented by an optional electrical generator, enables speeds above 100 km/h and an operational range of up to 1,000 kilometers.
