Genasys, a California-based company specializing in acoustic communication technology, has received $1.4 million in LRAD system orders from customers in Europe and the Asia-Pacific.
The latest purchases, including both first-time and additional orders, come from Australia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Lithuania, and Latvia. The equipment will be used by naval forces, coast guards, police departments, and security agencies for communication, warning, and security operations.
Genasys’ Long Range Acoustic Device systems deliver live or recorded messages and warning signals in a highly directional manner. This capability allows operators to communicate clearly across considerable distances while overcoming interference from wind, engines, crowds, and other environmental noise.
The technology combines the company’s Advanced Driver and Waveguide systems to focus acoustic energy toward a specific area. Depending on the LRAD model, communication ranges can extend up to 5.5 kilometers.
LRAD systems can be deployed in multiple configurations, including handheld, fixed-site, remotely controlled, vehicle-mounted, and shipboard installations. Selected versions can also be integrated with radar and motion detection systems to help identify potential threats, aim the acoustic device at the target, and deliver warnings remotely.
Maritime operators can use the systems to communicate with unidentified or approaching vessels, provide instructions, determine their intentions, and enforce security or exclusion zones. The technology can also support vessel interception, search-and-rescue missions, port security, coastal surveillance, and anti-piracy operations.
Beyond maritime applications, police and security organizations can deploy LRAD systems for managing crowds, protecting restricted areas, and issuing warnings near government buildings and other critical infrastructure.
