The US Army has awarded Lockheed Martin a $1.13-billion contract for the production of M142 HIMARS launchers destined for US forces and five international partners.

The agreement covers full-rate manufacturing of the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System for the US Army and Marine Corps, in addition to foreign military sales supporting Australia, Canada, Estonia, Sweden, and Taiwan.

Contract work will be performed across various production sites based on customer requirements and is expected to conclude by April 2028.

Expanding Global HIMARS Operators

HIMARS rose to international attention during operations in Ukraine, where the system demonstrated effective long-range precision strike capability, high survivability through rapid repositioning, and success in targeting enemy logistics, command facilities, and artillery assets.

Its battlefield performance has since driven increased demand from allied nations seeking enhanced long-range strike capabilities.

Australia has already ordered as many as 42 HIMARS launchers and took delivery of its first unit in March 2025.

Canada is preparing to introduce the system into service for the first time.

Meanwhile, Estonia expanded its HIMARS fleet with an additional order in April, and Sweden received approval in March for the acquisition of 20 launchers and supporting munitions to strengthen NATO’s deterrence against advanced threats.

Taiwan also recently announced US defense procurement deals that include HIMARS purchases worth approximately $3.9 billion.
