Astra Microwave Products Limited has indicated that contract negotiations with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Uttam AESA radar have reached an advanced stage, with the company expecting a formal order award during the July–September 2026 period. The update was provided during the company’s Q4 and FY26 results conference call held on May 27, 2026.

The Uttam radar, developed by DRDO’s Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), represents India’s indigenous next-generation fire-control radar solution. Astra Microwave has played a central role in the program as the Development Cum Production Partner, contributing key technologies and manufacturing responsibilities, including the production of the Active Antenna Array Unit.

The radar is earmarked for integration into the second tranche of 97 Tejas Mk1A fighter aircraft and is expected to significantly enhance operational capabilities. Compared with legacy radar systems, Uttam offers superior target detection, advanced multi-target engagement capability, improved imaging performance, and robust protection against electronic countermeasures.

The anticipated HAL order is expected to provide Astra Microwave with a substantial production pipeline and recurring revenue stream over the coming years. The contract would further strengthen the company’s standing within India’s growing defense electronics sector and highlight its contribution to indigenous military technology programs.

During the same investor briefing, the company also shared updates on the Virupaksha AESA radar being developed for the Su-30MKI modernization program. Astra Microwave confirmed that work on the Active Antenna Array Unit is progressing as planned, with completion expected shortly and the full radar system scheduled to be ready by the end of 2026.
