Norway has ordered 20 Patria 6×6 armored vehicles through the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program, further expanding its participation in the European armored vehicle initiative.
The new vehicles will feature command-and-control (C2) configurations fitted with Protector RS4 remote weapon stations. The contract also provides for logistics support, personnel training, and spare parts, with vehicle deliveries expected to start in 2026. In addition, the agreement includes options for Norway to procure up to 40 additional C2 variants along with RS4 weapon stations.
Expanding Norway’s CAVS Participation
The latest order comes after Norway signed a framework agreement with Patria in May to initiate the serial procurement of vehicles under the CAVS program.
Oslo became the seventh member of the multinational initiative after formally joining the program in 2025. Launched in 2020, CAVS was established to provide participating countries with a standardized and modern 6×6 armored vehicle system based on Patria’s 6×6 platform.
The program currently brings together Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Vehicles have already been delivered to several participating nations, including Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Denmark, and Germany, while the platform has also entered service in Ukraine.
Patria 6×6 Capabilities
The Common Armoured Vehicle System is built around Patria’s 6×6 multirole armored personnel carrier, which has been designed to remain in service for as long as 30 years.
The vehicle measures around 8 meters (26 feet) in length and can weigh up to 20 tons (18,144 kilograms/40,000 pounds), depending on the selected configuration. It can operate with a crew of three while carrying as many as 10 troops.
A 394-horsepower Scania diesel engine provides propulsion, enabling the vehicle to achieve a maximum speed of 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour and travel up to 700 kilometers (435 miles) on a full operational range.
