Kuwait has signed a major defense agreement to acquire the NASAMS air defense system, jointly developed by Kongsberg and Raytheon. This system is part of Kuwait’s broader effort to modernize its military and strengthen protection against evolving aerial threats. NASAMS is designed as a layered defense solution capable of detecting, tracking, and intercepting aircraft, drones, helicopters, and cruise missiles. It uses a network of radar systems, command centers, and mobile launchers equipped with precision-guided missiles such as AMRAAM and AIM-9X. The system can engage threats at medium ranges while detecting them from far greater distances, allowing early response and improved interception success. Its widespread use among NATO and allied countries reflects its reliability and effectiveness in modern air defense operations.
