Estonia has expanded its defense cooperation with South Korea through a new contract for three more K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems.

The order follows a previous 290-million-euro deal signed in December covering six Chunmoo launchers and several missile types, including the 239 mm CGR-080 guided rocket, the CTM-MR missile, and the CTM-290 tactical ballistic missile.

The new acquisition is intended to reinforce Estonia’s long-range strike capabilities alongside its existing fleet of six US-supplied M142 HIMARS systems delivered earlier in 2025. The Baltic nation has also reached a separate agreement with Lockheed Martin to procure three additional HIMARS launchers.

Manufactured by Hanwha Aerospace, the K239 Chunmoo is a highly mobile artillery platform capable of launching a wide range of rockets and missiles tailored for precision attacks, saturation fire missions, and deep-strike operations. Built on an 8×8 wheeled chassis, the launcher supports 239 mm guided rockets with an operational range of up to 80 kilometers and can also deploy CTM-290 tactical ballistic missiles capable of hitting targets up to 290 kilometers away.

Its dual-pod launcher design allows multiple munition combinations, including 20 K33 131 mm unguided rockets, six KM26A2 230 mm rockets, or six 239 mm precision-guided rockets. When configured for ballistic missile operations, each CTM-290 missile occupies an entire launch pod, allowing the vehicle to carry two missiles simultaneously.

The Chunmoo system can reportedly unleash a full rocket salvo in less than a minute, delivering concentrated firepower with rapid response capability. It also features automated reload systems, integrated networking with other artillery platforms, and compatibility with future long-range precision munitions exceeding 100 kilometers in range.
