The Lithuanian State Defence Council has authorized the procurement of 936 Patria 6×6 wheeled armored vehicles to support the country’s newly established military division. The acquisition agreement is expected to be signed in 2027, with deliveries planned between 2027 and 2036. Officials have indicated that 300 vehicles should be delivered by 2030.
State Defence Council President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that a portion of the manufacturing work will take place within Lithuania, strengthening local industrial participation. This follows technology transfer proposals from Patria through the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) framework.
The multinational CAVS program, based on the Patria 6×6 platform, includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, and the UK, and is designed to provide a standardized and cost-effective armored vehicle solution for NATO partners.
The Patria fleet will replace Lithuania’s M113 armored personnel carriers, which currently perform a wide range of operational duties including troop transport, reconnaissance, command post operations, medical evacuation, engineering support, communications, fire support, and CBRN protection. NATO interoperability, delivery timelines, cost-effectiveness, and industrial cooperation were among the key factors influencing the selection process.
The procurement supports Lithuania’s ongoing military modernization efforts following the creation of the National Division, a force expected to comprise approximately 20,000 troops and achieve full operational readiness by the end of the decade.
Built to NATO standards, the Patria 6×6 combines mobility, protection, and versatility. The vehicle has a maximum weight of 20 tons, carries a crew of two to three personnel plus up to 10 troops, and is powered by a 394-horsepower Scania diesel engine capable of delivering speeds of up to 100 km/h and a range of 700 kilometers. Its modular architecture allows adaptation for command, medical, transport, and indirect-fire support missions, including integration of the Patria NEMO turreted mortar system.
