Germany has signed a 3.5-billion-krone ($380-million) agreement with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for additional Joint Strike Missiles to equip its future fleet of 35 F-35 Lightning II fighter jets. The deal follows an earlier agreement handled through Norway, expanding Germany’s participation in the growing JSM program alongside countries such as Japan, Australia, Norway, and the US. Designed specifically for internal carriage on the F-35, the stealthy missile can strike both land and naval targets at ranges of up to 350 kilometers. The missile combines GPS, inertial navigation, terrain-reference mapping, and advanced mission-planning systems to operate effectively even in GPS-denied combat environments.
