Thailand has finalized a $107-million contract to acquire the Barak MX air defense system from Israel Aerospace Industries, strengthening the nation’s Integrated Air Defense System. The Barak MX addresses modern threats including UAVs, long-range missiles, and precision-guided weapons, offering interceptor variants reaching 35, 70, and 150 kilometers. The new system will introduce a critical medium-to-high-altitude defense tier, significantly improving the security of Thai air bases and key installations. Its performance has been combat-proven in Israel’s “Rising Lion” operation. The acquisition comes as neighboring countries develop advanced strike assets, including Cambodia’s PHL-03 long-range rockets and Myanmar’s Hwasong missile inventory, making the Barak MX a timely upgrade for Thailand’s defensive posture.
