Bharat Dynamics Limited has marked a major breakthrough in indigenous defence manufacturing by delivering India’s first production-standard wire-guided heavyweight torpedo to Naval Science and Technological Laboratory at Visakhapatnam.
Co-developed under the DCPP framework, the torpedo—offered in both training and operational variants—features advanced fiber-optic wire guidance along with active and passive acoustic homing for improved tracking and strike accuracy.
The system significantly enhances the combat capabilities of the Indian Navy and reinforces India’s commitment to defence indigenisation through the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.
This milestone places India among a select group of eight nations with the capability to design and manufacture advanced heavyweight torpedoes.
