France has ordered 17 Saab Giraffe 1X radar systems to improve its short-range air defense and counter-drone capabilities. Saab will deliver the radar units under a contract that includes spare parts, training, technical support, and vehicle integration with Scania France tactical platforms. Deliveries are scheduled between 2026 and 2027. The compact 3D radar is designed to detect and track low-altitude aerial threats such as drones and fast-moving aircraft while supporting the protection of critical infrastructure. Mounted on mobile vehicles, the systems will provide French forces with greater flexibility and rapid deployment capabilities in contested operational environments.
