Estonia has entered into an agreement with Lockheed Martin for the procurement of three additional M142 HIMARS launchers. As part of the deal, around $11 million will be invested in the Estonian defense sector, though detailed breakdowns of the investment have not been released.
The procurement builds on Estonia’s earlier 290-million-euro ($340 million) contract with Hanwha Aerospace for a minimum of six K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems. These will operate alongside the initial batch of six HIMARS systems ordered in 2022 and delivered in early 2025.
The allocated $11 million will fund the creation of domestic maintenance infrastructure for HIMARS components, enhancing operational readiness by enabling in-country support and servicing.
Additionally, Hanwha Aerospace has outlined a separate 100-million-euro ($115.5 million) investment initiative focused on expanding Estonia’s defense industry. This includes plans for a maintenance and repair hub as well as an ammunition manufacturing facility. The infrastructure will support key platforms in Estonian service, such as the K9 Thunder artillery system and the K239 Chunmoo MLRS.
