Rheinmetall has delivered the first series-production Caracal tactical vehicles to the German and Dutch armed forces, marking the commencement of deliveries under a joint procurement programme covering more than 1,500 vehicles.

The handover ceremony was held on October 29 at Rheinmetall’s production facility in the Netherlands. Company representatives formally presented the vehicles to Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support and the Dutch Ministry of Defence.

The Netherlands had previously received an initial vehicle on September 29 for driver training. The latest handover, however, marks the beginning of deliveries of production-standard vehicles.

Developed on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 464 military chassis, the Caracal is a highly mobile tactical platform designed to support airborne and specialized military units across diverse operational environments.

The contract includes the delivery of more than 1,500 vehicles to Germany and the Netherlands by 2030, alongside 20 years of lifecycle support.
Modular Design Enhances Operational Flexibility
The Caracal can accommodate up to four personnel, including their individual equipment and mission-specific gear. Its design enables transportation inside military aircraft or deployment as an underslung load beneath heavy-lift helicopters, supporting rapid military mobility.

Featuring a modular architecture, the vehicle can be adapted to meet different operational requirements through specialized equipment packages. Rheinmetall currently offers 28 different configurations to support a wide range of military missions.

The platform can also integrate various weapon systems, including MG5 machine guns, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, and anti-tank weapons. Furthermore, optional protection systems against ballistic threats and landmines can be incorporated depending on mission requirements.

The programme strengthens Germany and the Netherlands’ military mobility capabilities while expanding their ability to deploy specialized forces across diverse operational scenarios.
