The UAE-based state-owned defense company EDGE Group has signed an agreement with France’s Safran Electronics & Defense to develop and establish solid rocket motor production capabilities in Brazil.
The partnership will focus on creating local propulsion and guidance technologies through EDGE’s Brazilian subsidiary SIATT, based in São José dos Campos in southeastern Brazil. The initiative is designed to strengthen Brazil’s domestic defense manufacturing and technological capabilities.
Beyond solid rocket motors, the cooperation will cover a range of defense solutions, including guided weapons, loitering munitions, coastal defense systems, and critical subsystems. These technologies include inertial navigation systems, GNSS receivers, actuators, optronic sights, and seekers.
According to the companies, the initiative is expected to reduce Brazil’s reliance on international supply chains for major defense programs. One of the potential areas of application is the Brazilian armed forces’ Blue Amazon Management System, known as SisGAAz, which is designed to enhance maritime surveillance and monitoring capabilities.
The agreement also reinforces Safran’s long-standing role as an industrial partner to Brazil, building on nearly five decades of cooperation with the country.
EDGE Expands Its Brazilian Defense Footprint
The agreement is the latest development in EDGE Group’s efforts to expand its presence across Brazil and the wider South American defense market.
EDGE recently strengthened its engineering capabilities in Brazil through the acquisition of local company AKAER. The group has also inaugurated a new SIATT production headquarters, further expanding its industrial infrastructure in the country.
In addition, EDGE has established a cyber defense center in cooperation with the Brazilian Army and expanded maritime defense agreements with the Brazilian Navy.
Together, these initiatives highlight EDGE’s growing focus on developing local defense technologies, manufacturing capabilities, and strategic partnerships in Brazil.
