In a significant step toward airborne laser warfare, Israel has tasked Elbit Systems with developing high-powered laser weapons for use on military aircraft. The effort covers two variants—XCalibur for fixed-wing jets and the Sting system tailored for rotary-wing platforms. Positioned at higher altitudes, these laser systems benefit from reduced atmospheric interference, allowing them to identify and neutralize incoming threats from above cloud cover well before impact.
