Kosovo has received another consignment of Turkish-made OMTAS anti-tank missiles, expanding its precision-strike capabilities as it continues to develop layered defenses against armored vehicles.
The OMTAS (Orta Menzilli Tanksavar Silah) is a mid-range, fire-and-forget guided missile designed to neutralize modern armor and fortified positions. It can be launched from both ground-based tripods and vehicle platforms, making it suitable for a wide range of operational environments.
According to Defense Minister Maqedonci, increasing the diversity and volume of anti-tank weapons is intended to improve the Kosovo Security Force’s tactical flexibility, allowing units to tailor responses to different threat scenarios instead of relying on a single system.
The delivery aligns with Kosovo’s expanding defense relationship with Turkey, which has become a prominent supplier of advanced missile technologies to smaller and mid-tier militaries seeking contemporary anti-armor solutions without dependence on legacy systems.
OMTAS is primarily used by the Turkish Armed Forces, which inducted the missile in the mid-2010s to replace older wire-guided anti-tank weapons. It is now widely deployed across Turkish land units in both dismounted and vehicle-mounted roles.
Azerbaijan has also fielded the system, with public displays confirming its integration into Azerbaijani service since the early 2020s as part of wider ground force modernization initiatives.
