Italy has ordered two MQ-9A Block 5 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc., expanding its fleet of long-endurance platforms for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
The aircraft will be equipped with advanced sensors capable of providing full-motion video, moving-target tracking, synthetic-aperture radar, and maritime surveillance capabilities.
The MQ-9A Block 5 Reaper can remain airborne for up to 26 hours and operate at altitudes of approximately 45,000 feet (13,716 meters). The platform can also carry payloads weighing up to 4,600 pounds (2,087 kilograms), providing flexibility for a range of surveillance and mission-support requirements.
