Spanish shipbuilder Navantia has signed a contract with Turkey’s Naval Shipyards General Directorate to deliver lifecycle support services for the amphibious assault vessel TCG Anadolu. The agreement outlines a three-year term, with an option for renewal, and includes maintenance, repair, technical assistance (both remote and on-site), documentation updates, and training services.
The support framework is structured around a flexible service request model, allowing the Turkish Navy to access assistance as needed based on operational demands.
TCG Anadolu, built domestically at SEDEF shipyard with Navantia’s engineering support, is derived from the Juan Carlos I class. The ship integrates several Navantia-supplied systems, such as diesel generators and an advanced integrated platform control system.
Since its commissioning, the vessel has seen ongoing upgrades as Turkey seeks to expand its amphibious reach and incorporate unmanned aviation capabilities. Baykar has successfully integrated and tested TB3 carrier-capable drones on board, reflecting a shift toward utilizing Anadolu as a drone carrier alongside its traditional amphibious functions.
In parallel, Turkish Aerospace Industries continues to develop the Kızılelma unmanned combat aircraft, a carrier-capable platform intended to support Anadolu’s transformation into a hub for unmanned air operations.
