Arcfield has received a $75-million follow-on contract from the US Navy Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport to continue delivering engineering and support services for the Code 25 submarine combat control systems (CCS) programme.
The contract, which spans five years, was awarded through Rite-Solutions, the defence technology company acquired by Arcfield in December 2025.
The CCS programme oversees the development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of combat management systems for both existing and future US Navy submarines. Central to the programme is the AN/BYG-1, the Navy’s advanced next-generation submarine combat control system.
As part of the contract, Arcfield will continue providing technical and engineering expertise covering model-based systems engineering, cybersecurity, software and hardware development, as well as systems integration and testing activities.
AN/BYG-1 Combat System
The AN/BYG-1 combat control system combines data from multiple sensors to coordinate submarine combat operations, including weapon targeting, launch management, and tracking of hostile submarines and surface ships. The system significantly improves underwater situational awareness and combat effectiveness.
A key advantage of the AN/BYG-1 over legacy systems is its use of commercial off-the-shelf technologies, enabling faster upgrades and simplified modernization over the submarine’s operational lifespan.
The system was developed through a joint US-Australian programme and is currently operational aboard submarines in both navies. It is also expected to play a role in the future SSN-AUKUS nuclear-powered attack submarine project being developed for the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Navy.
