The US State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Oman covering F-16 fighter aircraft sustainment services and associated equipment, with an estimated value of $188 million.
The proposed package includes support and equipment for major and minor aircraft modifications, spare parts, software support, communications and ground-handling equipment, as well as related logistics and program management services. Washington classifies the items included in the package as non-major defense equipment.
As the F-16 manufacturer, Lockheed Martin typically provides extensive maintenance, sustainment, and lifecycle support for the fighter aircraft. However, the notification does not identify a principal contractor for the proposed sale.
The US government has also not disclosed a projected completion timeline for the work.
Oman reportedly operates a fleet of approximately 24 F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, making it one of several Middle Eastern F-16 operators alongside Bahrain, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates.
Oman’s strategic location near the Strait of Hormuz and the Arabian Sea makes maintaining the readiness of its fighter fleet particularly important. The sustainment package could help strengthen Oman’s air combat readiness while supporting its ability to contribute to regional security and coalition operations.
