The Australian government has awarded Babcock Australia a five-year, A$129 million (US$93 million) contract to support the Royal Australian Navy’s Anzac-class frigates.
Under the agreement, Babcock will provide asset management, engineering, and supply chain services to maintain the vessels’ seaworthiness throughout the remaining years of their service life.
Saab Australia will support the program as Babcock’s partner, contributing its expertise in the Anzac-class platform and combat system, along with an established sovereign workforce.
Australia’s eight Anzac-class frigates entered service between 1996 and 2006. They are gradually being replaced by new general-purpose frigates based on Japan’s upgraded Mogami-class design. The first of these new vessels is scheduled to arrive in Australia in December 2029.
Supporting Local Employment
The contract is expected to sustain more than 70 defense industry jobs across Western Australia and New South Wales. Babcock will also collaborate with small and medium-sized enterprises to supply spare parts and support asset management, strengthening Australia’s broader defense industrial base.
