The Netherlands has entered into a long-term framework agreement with Saab for the supply of Barracuda Mobile Camouflage Systems (MCS) for vehicles operated by the Dutch Armed Forces.
Under the agreement, the Dutch Ministry of Defence has placed an initial order, with deliveries expected to take place over the coming years. The first systems will be fitted to the Royal Netherlands Army’s existing Fennek reconnaissance vehicles and Panzerhaubitze 2000NL self-propelled howitzers, while the agreement also includes options to equip additional vehicle platforms in the future.
The Dutch Ministry of Defence had previously indicated that the 10-year framework arrangement could cover the procurement of hundreds of mobile camouflage systems.
Barracuda Mobile Camouflage System
Saab’s Barracuda MCS is an advanced vehicle camouflage solution designed to reduce the visual, infrared, and electromagnetic signatures of military platforms. Customized to fit specific vehicle types, the system is available in woodland, urban, and arctic camouflage configurations.
By reducing the detectability of vehicles against hostile surveillance and targeting systems, the technology is intended to enhance battlefield survivability. Its thermal-management properties can also help lower vehicle temperatures, potentially improving the endurance of personnel and protecting onboard electronic equipment.
