Babcock has secured a long-term contract extension to continue providing in-service support for the Royal Canadian Navy’s Victoria-class diesel-electric attack submarines, reinforcing its role as Canada’s primary submarine sustainment partner. The six-year agreement ensures continued maintenance, engineering support, logistics management, and fleet readiness while allowing for additional services that could extend until the submarines reach the end of their operational lives. The contract will help maintain Canada’s underwater defense capability as the country prepares to transition toward a future submarine fleet during the next decade. Babcock stated that the award builds upon nearly twenty years of collaboration with the Canadian government, during which it has developed specialized submarine expertise, established resilient supply chains, and created a highly skilled workforce dedicated to fleet sustainment. Since 2008, the company’s activities have generated more than 3.2 billion Canadian dollars in economic impact, supported approximately 450 industry partners, and sustained over 1,500 jobs annually across the country. Beyond maintaining the submarines, Babcock has strengthened Canada’s sovereign defense industrial base by collaborating with universities, Indigenous communities, small businesses, and research organizations to encourage innovation, workforce development, and technical training. Company executives emphasized that the contract extension will support operational readiness while enabling a seamless transition toward Canada’s future submarine capability through sustained industrial expertise and long-term infrastructure investment.
