LightPath Technologies has secured an additional production contract worth $11 million to manufacture advanced infrared imaging solutions for counter-unmanned aerial system applications. The award expands the company’s long-term collaboration with an international technology partner and supports the production of thermal cameras designed for detecting, tracking, and monitoring unmanned aerial threats across defense and homeland security missions. A key feature of the program is the phased integration of LightPath’s proprietary BlackDiamond infrared optical material, developed as a high-performance alternative to conventional germanium optics. The transition aims to improve supply chain resilience while maintaining the optical performance required for precision thermal imaging. BlackDiamond provides efficient infrared transmission while reducing dependence on germanium, a strategic material that has experienced increasing supply uncertainties in recent years. The latest award further strengthens LightPath’s position in military electro-optical technologies and follows several recent contracts involving cooled infrared sensors for naval surveillance, defense imaging, and advanced security applications.
