Kopin Corporation has secured a $3.6 million contract to supply helmet-mounted display (HMD) systems for installation on a European military helicopter platform that has not been publicly identified.

The multi-year contract calls for deliveries to begin in 2026 and extend across a five-year timeframe. Following this order, Kopin’s total contracted backlog for pilot HMD solutions now exceeds $10 million.

Boosting Operational Effectiveness

The helmet-mounted display projects key flight data, navigation guidance, aircraft status information, and weapons indicators directly into the pilot’s line of sight. This configuration reduces reliance on traditional cockpit displays, improving situational awareness and decreasing pilot workload during complex flight operations.

HMD systems have become a standard feature in contemporary military aviation, particularly for rotary-wing aircraft operating at low altitudes in high-risk environments. By delivering real-time mission and flight information, the systems support enhanced navigation, targeting accuracy, and threat response without diverting visual attention.

Ongoing Technology Evolution

In recent years, advancements in brightness, image clarity, and integrated avionics have strengthened the performance and safety benefits of HMD technology.

European defense forces are continuing to modernize helicopter fleets with upgraded avionics suites and pilot interface technologies to enhance operational capability and maintain compatibility with allied forces.
