Elbit Systems UK has delivered the first set of ground-based surveillance radar (GBSR) systems to the British Army’s artillery units, following successful live-fire trials conducted in early 2025.
The initial consignment includes 55 radars and related support gear, with additional systems slated for delivery later this year.
The UK procured 90 GBSR units in 2023, with an option to purchase 40 more. The systems were tailored to British military specifications, feature an open architecture, and were fully produced in the UK and Europe.
Designed for dual roles, the GBSR provides both surveillance and fall-of-shot (FoS) correction to improve battlefield awareness and unit survivability.
In its surveillance role, the radar detects and tracks personnel, vehicles, helicopters, and unmanned aircraft—supporting friendly-force monitoring and early threat identification.
Its FoS capability aids mortar and artillery crews by automatically locating impact points, enabling fast and precise adjustments to their fire missions.
