Under a $162-million U.S. Army contract, BAE Systems will produce major structural components of the M777 lightweight howitzer. The work, which began after an indefinite award in December 2023, will leverage BAE’s transatlantic supply network and its artillery hub in Sheffield. Deliveries begin in 2026. The M777’s agility and combat performance in Ukraine—where allies donated over 200 units—has driven renewed interest in the 155 mm towed gun, valued for its light weight and rapid deployability.
