Romania is poised to become the first European nation to acquire the Iron Dome air and missile defense system, developed by Israel.
Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu confirmed the planned purchase in an interview with national broadcaster TVR, noting that the deal is expected to be finalized in the autumn.

The Iron Dome, produced by Israeli state-owned defense firm Rafael, is a short- to very-short-range air defense (SHORAD-VSHORAD) system. It integrates Elta’s multi-mission radar, Tamir interceptor missiles, and mPrest’s command and control software.

Capable of detecting and engaging drones, aircraft, and missile threats, the system covers ranges up to 70 kilometers (43 miles) and altitudes up to 10,000 meters (32,800 feet).
