The US Army is leveraging operational data to develop artificial intelligence models capable of automatically identifying and tracking targets across a wide range of military missions.

Sightline Intelligence’s Aided Target Recognition platform will provide Army personnel with tools to develop, train and evaluate target-recognition AI models using military datasets. The platform combines model-development capabilities with a dedicated training interface designed for government users.

The resulting AI models could support multiple Army applications, including missile seekers, launched effects, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), long-range precision fires, and integrated air and missile defense.

By applying machine learning to operational datasets, the initiative aims to enhance automated target detection and tracking while supporting faster and more consistent decision-making across diverse battlefield environments.

The effort also reflects the US Army’s broader push to integrate AI-enabled capabilities into sensing, targeting and precision-strike systems, potentially enabling military platforms to process complex data and identify relevant targets with reduced human workload.
