Raytheon has received a contract worth up to $20.7 billion to accelerate production of the Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM).
The five-year agreement includes two additional option years and supports the Pentagon’s broader “Arsenal of Freedom” initiative, which aims to strengthen US manufacturing capacity, speed up weapons procurement, and transition the defense industrial base toward higher-rate production.
The contract follows a February agreement between RTX and the US Department of Defense that requires the company to increase annual AMRAAM production to at least 1,900 missiles.
AMRAAM Production
AMRAAM serves as a primary beyond-visual-range air-to-air weapon for several US and allied fighter aircraft. The missile is also the principal interceptor used by the ground-based NASAMS air defense system.
Continuing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, including military operations involving Iran, have increased demand for AMRAAMs as the US and its allies seek to replenish missile inventories.
RTX has pursued several initiatives to expand production capacity, including partnerships with hundreds of small and medium-sized suppliers across the United States.
The company is also evaluating international co-production opportunities. In July, RTX began seeking European suppliers capable of producing components for AMRAAM, reflecting efforts to expand and diversify the missile’s industrial supply chain.
