BAE Systems is seeking closer industrial cooperation with Polish defense manufacturers to provide maintenance, repair, and potential production support for the M88A2 Armored Recovery Vehicle within Poland.

The partnership is designed to improve operational support for the Polish Army’s fleet of M88A2 recovery vehicles, which are responsible for retrieving damaged armored platforms, including M1 Abrams main battle tanks. The vehicle is capable of recovering armored assets weighing as much as 70 tons.

As part of the initiative, BAE Systems has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. (WZM) and H.CEGIELSKI-POZNAŃ SA (HCP), both members of the PGZ Capital Group. WZM brings extensive experience in sustaining tracked armored vehicles, while HCP offers advanced manufacturing capabilities.

The agreement builds upon a licensing arrangement signed in 2025 between BAE Systems and WZM for M88A2 maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment services, with HCP now joining to expand domestic manufacturing expertise.

According to Medland, the partnership demonstrates BAE Systems’ approach of supporting allied nations by building strong strategic relationships with local industry.

The cooperation follows a previous joint initiative between BAE Systems and PGZ to establish a 155mm artillery ammunition manufacturing plant in Poland. The facility is expected to produce up to 180,000 rounds annually for the country’s K9 and Krab self-propelled howitzers and earned the British-Polish Collaboration Award from the British Embassy in Warsaw and the British Polish Chamber of Commerce in May 2026.
