In a significant step toward enhancing indigenous maintenance capabilities, the Indian Air Force has issued an EOI for the local development of ground support systems for its Rafale fighter fleet. The tender (ID: 2026 IAF 755203 1) seeks industry participation for the production of 18 specialized TTGE lines—covering tools, testing systems, and ground equipment designed for Rafale operations.
This initiative is part of India’s broader push for self-reliance in defense, aiming to minimize reliance on foreign suppliers for critical sustainment infrastructure. The TTGE systems will support maintenance of advanced onboard technologies, including avionics, AESA radar systems, mission computers, and weapon integration components. Local manufacturing of these systems is expected to enhance fleet availability, cut maintenance costs, and reduce delays associated with imported spares and overseas support.
Based at Air Force Station Ojhar in Maharashtra, the tender was issued on March 5, 2026, with a tight submission deadline of March 27 and bid opening immediately thereafter, highlighting the urgency of the requirement. The effort reflects the IAF’s focus on strengthening operational readiness as Rafale jets continue to play a crucial role in India’s defense strategy.
Importantly, this programme is distinct from the larger MRFA acquisition plan for 114 additional Rafale aircraft, which involves significant procurement and manufacturing considerations. Instead, the current effort is dedicated to supporting the existing fleet of 36 Rafales inducted since 2020. By developing these ground support systems domestically, the IAF aims to build a resilient supply chain, encourage technological capability within Indian industry, and lay the foundation for greater autonomy in maintaining and upgrading advanced fighter platforms.
