Anduril is pursuing an alternative approach to missile development by designing a family of interceptors around a shared core architecture, rather than developing entirely new systems for each mission.
Its newly introduced Steelfin interceptor family combines different first-stage boosters with a common terminal interceptor, aiming to address a range of aerial threats, from cruise missiles to hypersonic weapons.
The system features a two-stage architecture that allows different solid rocket motors to be integrated into the first stage. This modular design enables adjustments to range and performance while accommodating various launch platforms and storage requirements. By standardising the core interceptor and adapting the booster to specific operational needs, Anduril aims to improve design flexibility and streamline the development of missile defence systems.
