Tonbo Imaging’s Avenger S75E is a compact, airworthy electro-optical gimbal designed to support long-range airborne surveillance, reconnaissance, targeting and search-and-rescue missions.
The system integrates daylight, short-wave infrared (SWIR) and mid-wave infrared (MWIR) imaging capabilities through a common-aperture optical architecture. By aligning multiple sensors along a shared optical path, the design helps maintain a consistent line of sight and matched fields of view across different imaging bands.
Despite incorporating very long focal-length optics, the Avenger S75E is housed within an 18-inch-class gimbal weighing less than 55 kg. Its compact configuration facilitates integration with medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) and high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as manned and unmanned fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms.
Precision Stabilisation and Multi-Sensor Imaging
The payload features four-axis precision stabilisation, incorporating fibre-optic gyroscope-based technology to deliver steady imaging and accurate target observation from airborne platforms. This capability is essential for maintaining image quality during aircraft manoeuvres, vibration and extended long-range surveillance operations.
An integrated laser designator and laser rangefinder enable accurate distance measurement and support laser-assisted targeting functions. The multi-sensor configuration also provides operators with daylight and thermal imaging options, enhancing mission effectiveness across varying visibility conditions.
AI-Enabled Target Detection and Tracking
An onboard graphics processing unit (GPU) enables real-time processing of high-definition video streams. The system supports artificial intelligence-enabled automatic target recognition (ATR) and automatic video target tracking (AVT), helping reduce operator workload during the detection, identification and continuous monitoring of objects of interest.
These capabilities enhance situational awareness and support more efficient surveillance and targeting operations, particularly during extended missions involving multiple areas of interest.
Indigenous Development and Avenger-S Product Family
The Avenger S75E is part of Tonbo Imaging’s broader Avenger-S family of airborne imaging and targeting solutions, designed for integration across aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and aerostats. The product family is positioned for border security, coastal monitoring and high-altitude surveillance missions, incorporating GPU-based video processing and multi-sensor electro-optical payloads.
Tonbo describes the Avenger S75E as one of its most technically complex systems. Developed indigenously, the platform represents a significant investment in proprietary technologies spanning long-range optics, stabilised gimbal engineering, sensor integration, laser systems and embedded artificial intelligence processing.
Its development underscores the growing role of indigenous electro-optical technologies in strengthening airborne surveillance capabilities and advancing domestic expertise in sophisticated defence systems.
