The British Army has concluded a two-week autonomous logistics training course ahead of its participation in Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PCC6), a multinational military experimentation event scheduled for Fort Irwin, California. Held at the Combat Service Support Trials and Development Unit in Aldershot, Hampshire, the program brought together personnel from 8 Squadron, 27 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps. The training was delivered through a partnership between the UK Ministry of Defence and Rheinmetall teams from Austria, the UK, and Canada as part of Project MAIA, which is exploring the integration of autonomous technologies into future military logistics operations.

As part of the course, soldiers operated an HX2 prototype truck fitted with Rheinmetall’s PATH Autonomous Kit, a system that integrates AI-driven navigation, advanced sensors, and vehicle control software to enable autonomous driving for individual vehicles or supply convoys. Trainees gained experience in key operational roles such as convoy commander, lead driver, and safety driver, while completing increasingly demanding exercises that included both on-road and off-road scenarios. The training also simulated real-world battlefield challenges such as blocked routes, disabled vehicles, and dynamic convoy coordination, preparing personnel for autonomous logistics missions during PCC6.
