An air-launched, rocket-assisted torpedo capable of gliding through the air before diving beneath the waves is at the heart of the Indian Navy’s latest effort to counter underwater threats at extended ranges.

The proposed weapon could be carried by crewed fighter aircraft or autonomous platforms, combining aerial mobility with underwater attack capabilities.

According to the Indian Defence Research Wing (IDRW), the concept would integrate a conventional torpedo with a range-extension kit designed specifically for air launch.
