Montenegro has received its first batch of 31 Iveco Eurocargo logistics trucks from Italy, marking the initial delivery under a defense agreement aimed at modernizing the Balkan nation’s military transport capabilities.
The shipment comprises Eurocargo MLL150 and M170 variants configured for transporting troops and supplies across challenging off-road terrain.
The broader agreement between Podgorica and Rome covers up to 86 vehicles valued at nearly €20 million ($23.1 million), financed through a loan from a Montenegrin bank.
The remaining 55 vehicles, including additional troop carriers and specialized water and fuel tankers, are expected to arrive by the end of the year at the Milovan Šaranović barracks in Danilovgrad.
The package also includes spare parts, diagnostic equipment, sustainment training, and a two-year warranty.
### Replacing Legacy Military Trucks
The delivery is part of the Montenegrin Ground Army’s ongoing effort to replace aging heavy trucks inherited from the Yugoslav People’s Army, many of which have been in service for more than 30 years.
Defense officials said the new fleet will also strengthen Montenegro’s civil protection capabilities during emergencies and other crisis situations.
### Iveco Eurocargo Capabilities
Iveco’s Eurocargo is available in both 4×4 and 4×2 configurations, offering flexibility for a range of military and logistics missions.
Depending on the configuration, the truck can weigh up to 18 tonnes (39,683 pounds). Its electronically controlled air suspension helps maintain ground clearance while carrying different cargo loads.
The vehicle is powered by either Tector 5 or Tector 7 diesel engines, delivering between 160 and 320 horsepower. It can reach a top speed of 110 kilometers per hour (68 miles per hour).
