Rheinmetall has been commissioned by the Danish government to deliver ammunition for a wide range of military platforms, including IFVs and self-propelled air defense systems. The seven-year framework contract, worth several hundred million euros, also covers the supply of 120mm main battle tank rounds and 155mm artillery ammunition.

The first medium-caliber orders include a mix of 30×173mm and 35×228mm cartridges, totaling high five-digit quantities and carrying a value in the low hundreds of millions of euros. These procurements form part of Denmark’s broader effort to modernize and expand its ammunition stocks.

The purchase of 30×173mm rounds supports Denmark’s mobile short-range air defense ambitions, particularly following the acquisition of Rheinmetall’s Skyranger 30 system in 2024. Skyranger 30 integrates a 30mm cannon, missile launchers, and sensors, using programmable airburst munitions to defeat drones and other fast, low-flying threats.

Meanwhile, the 35×228mm ammunition will be used by Denmark’s CV9035 IFVs armed with the Bushmaster III 35mm cannon. Denmark recently ordered 44 additional CV90 vehicles from BAE Systems, adding to the 115 units contracted in 2024. Under the tank ammunition segment, Rheinmetall will supply more than 1,000 rounds of 120mm kinetic-energy munitions, valued in the high single-digit million-euro range.
