The first serial-produced E-ZPT electric armoured personnel carrier, developed by MKE, has been delivered by Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense following acceptance trials in Ankara. The program reflects a shift in the M113 modernization strategy toward reducing acoustic and thermal signatures, improving survivability in modern mechanized operations.

Electric propulsion is the core advantage, lowering noise and thermal footprints to complicate enemy detection via ISR networks, handheld thermals, or UAV sensors. Reduced sound can make tracked vehicles harder to detect in cities, valleys, or wooded terrain, while diminished heat emissions during slow movements or short stops delay confirmation and targeting—giving crews valuable seconds to reposition or evade indirect fire.

The E-ZPT was developed by upgrading legacy M113 hulls with modern running gear, suspension, crew systems, and electronics. By focusing on modernization rather than a new design, MKE ensures faster fleet rollout, lower operational risk, and continuity with existing maintenance and training practices.
