Thales has signed its first international export contract for the HF XL TRC 3900 land-based radio system, partnering with Malaysia’s Advanced Defence Systems.
The deal includes the supply of over 100 vehicle-mounted stations, complete with radios, amplifiers, and antennas.
The HF XL range delivers resilient, high-data-rate communications, significantly improving Malaysia’s defense capabilities across both urban centers and remote areas. According to Thales, the system offers 10 times the data rate of current HF radios, enabling secure long-range communications in challenging tropical environments.
Thales has been a trusted partner of the Malaysian Army for more than 25 years, delivering over 10,000 radios to date. The TRC 3900 family includes 20W manpack units with a range of 1,000 km (620 miles), and 400W to 1kW radios capable of linking command posts with headquarters over distances up to 5,000 km (3,100 miles).
The system is jam-resistant, cost-effective, and supports large data transfers, including images and video, even in regions with limited satellite coverage.
